Combined Drought Indicator (CDI) - seasonal conditions information for NSW primary producers.
Welcome to the DPI Combined Drought Indicator. This interactive tool provides a snapshot of current seasonal conditions for NSW, factoring in rainfall, soil moisture and pasture/crop growth indices. By accounting for the effectiveness of rainfall the CDI provides a more comprehensive indicator of drought conditions than many other sources. In NSW, drought occurs when any of these indices falls below 30%, when compared to historical records.
This data is one source of information that informs policy and Government responses to changing seasonal conditions, including drought. The map provides an initial indicator and is not used in determining eligibility for assistance measures offered by the NSW Government.
A more comprehensive assessment of seasonal conditions for NSW is available each month in the State Seasonal Update.
Explore other data and information on seasonal conditions through the data portal. Here you can find the historical drought indicators for your parish.
